National Weatherperson’s Day

You read it right, today is indeed National Weatherperson’s day and with the current weather conditions, they are perhaps in need of recognition this year more than ever before. With much of the UK currently being bombarded with unpredictable weather and volatile storms, we are incredibly reliant on the good folks who work hard to predict the unpredictable and give us the best possible advice with regard to with weather.

National Weatherperson’s day was established in order to honour those who work in the meteorological field and occurs annual on February 5th – the birth date of one of the first recognised meteorologists, John Jeffries. This Boston born meteorologist began monitoring the weather and taking daily measurements in 1774 and made huge contributions to the field in his lifetime.

It is worth then, for one day, taking a break from usual haranguing and labasting which we typically aim in the direction of the weatherman or woman and instead, show our appreciation for those who seek to prepare us for what awaits in the great outdoors. So take 5 minutes and offer up some thanks to your weatherperson of choice, and then tomorrow you can start moaning again.
