Install, inspect and service air conditioning and ventilation systems in ducts and at outlets

The correct and efficient adjustment of ventilation and air conditioning systems makes very high demands on measurement technology, due to various measurement locations and different flow velocities. Whether the precise determination of volume flow, quick spot measurements in ducts or the recording of turbulent flows at outlets: without suitable measuring instruments, it is impossible to ensure optimum indoor air quality in residential and non-residential buildings. Immediate effects of indoor air pollution often resemble those from a common cold or illness, making a potential issue even more difficult to detect. There are several illnesses that result from contaminated indoor air. Some of the more minor effects include irritated eyes, nose or skin as well as an increased likelihood of irritation of the eyes, coughing, headaches, dizziness, fatigue and nausea.

The most accurate measurement results can be achieved by measuring directly in a duct. However, since ventilation ducts are in practice frequently hidden or inaccessible, it is often necessary to resort to outlet measurements. If the ventilation duct is accessible, duct measurement is the best solution. This is because air flows are measured most accurately directly in the duct. However, it must be considered that the flows in the duct are usually non-homogenous and turbulent. To obtain reliable results despite this, measurements should always be taken at several measuring points over the duct cross-section. In these grid measurements, a mean flow velocity is derived from the individual measurement values.

Vane anemometers

Our best selling anemometer is the compact testo 417 anemometer kit. With built-in flow/temperature vane Ø 100 mm to measure flow speed, volume flow and temperature, it is perfect for the majority of applications regarding measurement of volume flow.

Accurate volume flow calculation thanks to easy input of duct area. In addition, it is easy to switch to the current temperature reading. The flow direction, i.e. drawn in or blowing, is visible in the display. Timed and multi-point mean calculation provide information on mean volume flow, flow speed and temperature readings.

Volume Flow Hood

Testo’s new volume flow hood testo 420 is the light, precise and convenient solution for regulating volume flows at larger air intakes and outlets. At swirl outlets in particular, the flow straightener significantly reduces the usual measurement errors. This allows users to fulfil hygienic Indoor Air Quality guidelines and stipulations in ventilation and air conditioning systems quickly and precisely, e.g. in industry, office rooms or in cleanrooms.

Handling is especially easy with a uniquely low weight of less than 2.9 kg and ergonomic handles. The measuring instrument can be tilted and removed for more comfortable readout of the measurement values. In addition to this, mobile devices can be used via Bluetooth App integration as a second display and remote control. Users can use the App to finalise and send the measurement report directly on site.

Smart Probes VAC set

In combination with a smartphone or tablet, it can be used to measure air and surface temperatures, air humidity, air flow velocities and volume flows in, on and around air conditioning plants and systems.
