Why HACCP is needed

What is HACCP?

HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) is an official set of process guidelines which covers all stages of the food production chain and is something that all companies involved with food production & distribution must strictly adhere to.

HACCP offers guidance and best practice advice for a systematic, preventative approach to food safety that covers the key temperature levels for the food production process. If temperature is improperly monitored and maintained, food will spoil due to bacteria and become dangerous for human consumption.

There is a specific temperature band, known as the danger zone (5-60 degrees centigrade), which provides optimum conditions for the multiplication of a variety of pathogens and bacteria, thus making accurate measurement imperative.

How does HACCP affect my business?

As part of routine inspections, an enforcement officer will check that the business has an appropriate HACCP-based food safety management system in place. Therefore it is of the utmost importance that food companies not only understand what is required of them, but also that they have the correct tools to monitor this.

Testo instruments to help ensure food safety

Testo offer a wide range of instruments for food applications which will help you meet your HACCP requirements and give you the reassurance your methods are safe. Whether it is for spot checks or long-term monitoring, Testo has the right instrument for the job. The industry has strict guidelines and procedures in a number of areas that must be adhered to in order for businesses to operate safely and legally and to protect the interests and health of consumers.

Here is a breakdown of which Testo instruments can help with food safety, ensuring that your business meets HACCP requirements:

Testo’s new and improved Saveris 2 makes temperature and humidity analysis both easier and more accurate than ever before. By using a Cloud-based monitoring system it allows information to be stored and accessed remotely. This means users can monitor and react to issues from anywhere in the world. This will help to reduce pressure, relieving the need to be constantly on-site to keep measurement values under control.

Data Logging

Testo offer a wide range of compact and professional data loggers for both storage and transportation of produce. Our data loggers can be used for a number of parameters, so whether you’re monitoring temperature, humidity, or absolute temperature, Testo Data Loggers have got you covered.

Testo provide a range of practical measuring solutions for pH measurement. The instruments are simple to use and suitable for everyday use in the field. Unlike conventional sensors, Testo probes use a gel electrolyte as a storage medium; the gel is unaffected by dirt, maintenance free and leak proof ensuring optimum performance of the probe in the field.

Thermal Imaging

Temperature control is an integral part of a HACCP plan and ensuring your food is stored correctly can be an expensive exercise if your equipment is not reliable. Testo thermal imagers can detect faulty seals on refrigerated units leading to wasted energy as well as areas where mould and other bacteria can grow putting food at risk.
